Omaha Gives! provides the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro a platform to celebrate area nonprofits year-round. However, for nearly eight years we’ve seen the power of a community rallying together on a single day to raise money and collective excitement for nonprofits. While the 2020 Omaha Gives! celebration (May 20, 2020) is a few months away, the Omaha Community Foundation is gearing up for another day of championing for nonprofits—Giving Tuesday.

Launched in 2012, Giving Tuesday is celebrated annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and is fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. The day inspires millions around the world to show up and give to causes and issues that matter to them. The goal of Giving Tuesday is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond the day; touching every person on the planet.

This year Giving Tuesday will be celebrated on December 3.

Our community has consistently shown up in a big way for nonprofits; raising $46,560 during Giving Tuesday in 2018. To keep the giving going and spirit of Giving Tuesday alive, we’ve partnered with SHARE Omaha to make this year’s Giving Tuesday even bigger.

December 3 in our community will now be about spreading as much good as we can. Whether you donate on Omaha Gives! or Pottawattamie Gives!, find a volunteer opportunity on SHARE Omaha, or participate in a random act of kindness—all giving is good.

This collaboration is a message to our community that no matter how you give, it makes a difference.

In addition to this partnership, our team at Omaha Community Foundation has decided to lower the minimum donation on the giving platform to just $1 for Giving Tuesday. Our hope is that a reduced minimum donation will allow even more community members to celebrate nonprofits.
