Grants for nonprofits working in Southwest Iowa

The Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa are comprised of nine counties that have come together to minimize administrative costs, with back office support provided by the Omaha Community Foundation. Each is led by its own advisory board made up of individuals who live in the county.

As affiliates of the Omaha Community Foundation, the Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa receive funds annually from the State of Iowa County Endowment Fund Program for endowment building and grantmaking. Created in 2004, the County Endowment Fund Program is funded by a percentage of the state’s commercial gaming tax revenue. These funds are distributed annually to participating community foundations and affiliate community foundations associated with counties without a state-issued gaming license.

Each affiliate county hosts at least one grant cycle per year. The goal of each grant program is to improve the quality of life in the county by supporting needs and opportunities in the areas of arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services, and historic preservation.
