Move Marks End to Omaha Gives Day of Giving

The Omaha metro area will soon be able to focus on a single website destination for online giving and volunteer opportunities, thanks to a new partnership between SHARE Omaha and the Omaha Community Foundation. The two groups share a passion for philanthropy that invites everyone to participate year-round. The new partnership will combine the year-round power and versatility of SHAREomaha.org with the far-reaching accessibility of Omaha Gives, which was started eight years ago by the Omaha Community Foundation.

That means an end to the Omaha Gives day of giving – with an incredible $58 million raised for more than 1,000 nonprofits in the metro area over the eight-year run. Leaders from both nonprofits are confident that the giving will continue to grow on the enhanced platform, with SHARE Omaha’s focus on 365-day giving as well as planning for 2021 giving and volunteering events.

“While Omaha Gives has been an integral part of our work throughout the last decade, we see the incredible opportunity to combine our efforts for greater nonprofit impact,” said Donna Kush, Omaha Community Foundation’s CEO and President. “We are eager to support SHARE Omaha as they build upon a dynamic and robust online resource that will support donors and nonprofits in exciting ways into the future.”

SHARE Omaha executive director Marjorie Maas encourages eligible nonprofits to join SHARE Omaha and experience free promotional benefits right away. “The SHARE Omaha community makes it easy to share a nonprofit mission year-round. Not only do Omaha/Council Bluffs region nonprofits reach new donors daily, they attract and retain first-time volunteers and in-kind contributions.”

The partnership to elevate a single online giving platform will allow each group to focus on what they do best. The Omaha Community Foundation will devote greater focus and resources to their community initiatives, grant programs, community interest funds, and nonprofit capacity building.

SHARE Omaha connects everyday philanthropists to local causes with a website that showcases thousands of ways to do good through Eastern Nebraska and Southwest Iowa. From last year’s floods to this year’s pandemic, SHARE Omaha has engaged new volunteersover 2,000 in 2020and allowed donors to provide useful supplies during these critical times. SHARE Omaha operates with the belief that every member of the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro has a gift to offer the community, each donor and volunteer is valued, and all are invited to give when, where and how they want to give.
