The Harrison County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that it has awarded $71,500 in grants to Harrison County nonprofit agencies. The following organizations were awarded grants by the Harrison County Community Foundation Advisory Board:

  • Boyer Valley Youth Organization – 10,000.00 for Fencing and Storage Shed for Ball Field
  • City of Pisgah – $7,500.00 for Bath House Restroom Upgrade
  • City of Woodbine – $3,500.00 for Little League Bleacher Project
  • Harrison County Conservation – $6,000.00 to Complete Loess Hills Overland Trail
  • Harrison County Fair –$11,000.00 for 4H Show Arena Bleachers
  • Logan Fire and Rescue – $11,956.00 for Battery Powered Vehicle Extrication Tool
  • Missouri Valley Public Library – $1,744.00 for Computer Equipment
  • Rand Community Center – $5,700.00 for Keyless Entry System
  • Rialto Theatre Association – $4,600.00 for Air Conditioner and Wiring
  • Woodbine Main Street – $4,500.00 for Historic Streetlights
  • Woodbine Saddle Club – $5,000.00 for Rodeo Grounds Stands Installation

The total grant amount included $4,000 from the Wubbena C. Rand Endowed Fund, $1,400 from the Richard and Kathryn Randall Endowed Fund, $4,500 from the Kathryn Heistand Walpus Endowed Fund for Woodbine, $7,700 from the Missouri Valley Community Foundation Endowment Fund, $1,900 from the Pisgah Community Endowed Fund, and $15,000 from the Lloyd and Donna Leonard Endowed Fund.

All grantees met the criteria as Harrison County nonprofit agencies or organizations with charitable missions in the areas of civic, cultural, health, education, and social services. Only organizations providing services in Harrison County were eligible. Harrison County agency representatives received their checks on November 20. During brief check distribution activities, Treva Block commended the nonprofit agencies for their individual efforts to provide a better quality of life for the residents of Harrison County.

Our Advisory Board is pleased to direct $71,500 in grants to these important community efforts in Harrison County. The Harrison County Community Foundation is one of nine counties that are collectively known as the Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa and meets or exceeds the Standards for Community Foundations as established by the Council on Foundations in Washington DC.

The Harrison County Community Foundation works with individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to create charitable funds that address the changing, vital community needs and interests. Donating to a charitable fund helps your neighbors today and you help build a stronger community tomorrow. Not only that, you may be eligible to receive a 25% Endow Iowa Tax Credit for each donation, in addition to any Federal tax benefits for which you may qualify. The Shelby County Community Foundation invests and administers these funds and distributes grants to deserving, qualified nonprofit organizations. “This has grown from an annual event to twice a year, with one grant cycle in the spring and another in the fall,” said Block.
