The Mills County Community Foundation awarded $140,910 to Mills County nonprofit organizations and community projects during its Spring 2023 Grant Cycle.

The following organizations are Spring 2023 Grant Recipients:

  • Emerson Volunteer Fire/Rescue Association – $9,517, Personal Fire Protection Equipment
  • Glenwood Baseball Softball Club – $5,000, Scoreboard
  • Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department – $4,900 , Drone Project
  • Hastings Fire and First Responders – $11,814, Fire Hose and Nozzles
  • Jennie Edmundson Foundation – $2,904, Caring for our Communities Programming
  • Liberty Memorial Building Board – $4,000, Electrical Renovation
  • Malvern Volunteer Fire Department – $8,500, Handheld Radios
  • Mills County Fair Association – $7,000, Rabbit/Poultry Sliding Door Replacement
  • Nishna Productions, Inc. – $6,000, Wheelchair Scale
  • Oak Township Fire and Rescue – $5,250 , Insulate Fire Apparatus Station
  • Pacific Junction First Responders Association, Inc. – $5,750, Bunker Gear
  • Silver City Ambulance – $3,775, LifePak and First Aid
  • Silver City Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department – $6,500, Communication and Life Safety Equipment
  • Southwest Iowa Technical Career Hub (SWITCH) – $30,000, SWITCH Service Technology Program

All grantees met the criteria as Mills County nonprofit agencies or organizations with charitable missions supporting community needs in the areas of civic engagement, culture, health, education, and social services. Only organizations providing services in Mills County were eligible to apply.

The Mills County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Omaha Community Foundation, which meets National Standards for Community Foundations, and is one of nine county members of the Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa. It receives funds annually from the State of Iowa County Endowment Fund Program for endowment building and grantmaking throughout the county. This cycle of grants was made possible through the County Endowment Fund Program and is funded by a percentage of the state’s commercial gaming tax revenue, which is distributed annually to participating community foundations associated with counties without a state-issued gaming license.

The Mills County Community Foundation works with individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to create permanent and expendable funds that address changing, vital community needs and interests. Gifts to permanently endowed funds through the Mills County Community Foundation may be eligible to receive a 25% Endow Iowa Tax Credit.
