Heartland Honors 9/11
Remember, Reflect, and Say Thank You
This community-wide effort reflects the 25th commemoration of 9/11 and brings the Omaha metro area together to remember, reflect, and say thank you.
The campaign honors first responders by encouraging meaningful acts of remembrance, service, and gratitude.
The Omaha Community Foundation’s role is to provide opportunities to direct charitable contributions of any size that reflect donors personal values and connections.
The organizations below are 501(c)(3) nonprofits that serve veterans, military members, first responders, and their families across the Omaha–Council Bluffs metro area. This is not an exhaustive list, but each organization has a local presence or serves metro-area residents and provides direct services, support, resources, wellness programs, housing, advocacy, or financial assistance.

First Responder Support
Serves and honors first responders, veterans, and their families throughout the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area through behavioral health services, wellness programs, service dog initiatives, family support services, and community recognition efforts

Provides confidential trauma treatment, peer support, and wellness services for veterans, military members, frontline workers, and first responders.
Veteran & Military Family Support
Wounded Warriors Family Support
An Omaha-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of wounded veterans and their families through programs, services, and direct support.
Supports veteran-serving organizations across the Omaha metro by raising awareness, mobilizing community support, and investing in programs that serve veterans and their families.
A veteran-led organization focused on connecting veterans and first responders with mental health resources, peer support, and community.
A Council Bluffs-based nonprofit that supports veterans, military families, and veteran-serving organizations across Iowa by connecting resources, funding projects, and helping address unmet needs within the veteran community.
United Way of the Midlands – 2-1-1 Military and Family Helpline
Connects military members, veterans, and their families to local resources and support services, including housing, financial assistance, and mental health resources.
Housing Stability & Specialized Support
Empowers veterans facing mental health challenges and homelessness through community support, advocacy, and direct assistance programs.
Provides long-term supportive housing and care for wounded combat veterans while promoting stability, independence, and quality of life.
Paralyzed Veterans of America – Great Plains Chapter
Empowers veterans living with spinal cord injuries and diseases through advocacy, benefits assistance, and supportive services.
