Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome, and training and tools are provided on-site. Volunteers must be 14 years or older, wear closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, and are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle to reduce waste.

The clean-up initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Omaha Community Foundation-led Tri-County Long Term Recovery Group to address both immediate and long-term needs following the tornado that struck the community in April. The Tri-County Long Term Recovery Group is partnering with Habitat for Humanity on the clean-up event.

“Through the dedication of more than 30 partner agencies—including social services, faith organizations, and construction management partners—significant progress has been made toward helping affected families recover and prepare for the future,” said Sarah Sjolie, OCF’s Disaster Recovery Coordinator. “This collaboration has been a testament to the strength and resilience of our community.”

As winter approaches, the need to prepare homes for the colder months becomes urgent. Kenneth Mar, Washington County Area Director for Habitat for Humanity, emphasized the importance of the event: “This is an opportunity for neighbors to support those still dealing with the aftermath of the tornadoes. With winter on the horizon, now is the time to show up and help people repair and prepare their homes.”
