As a part of The Landscape data collection process, the Foundation also compiled a number of stories from community members who have been impacted by the focus areas. This is one of the stories that represent the lived experiences of people who reside in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area.
The son of an immigrant from Mexico, Cody is only the second person in his family to go to college.
Growing up, Cody’s grandfather taught him that nothing is more important than education. Cody’s high school guidance counselor helped him to apply for college scholarships, and he won a full ride to Metro Community College’s automotive technology program.
The program is preparing him for a job after graduation, with all the expectations of a full-time job and the chance to work with real customers. Cody also tutors his classmates because the Metro program is challenging and Cody is invested in not only his success but others’, too.
