The Omaha Community Foundation’s largest competitive grant program has awarded grants to 39 area organizations. The Fund for Omaha grants are awarded in the Spring and Fall each year, providing nonprofits funding toward their greatest needs and supporting effective solutions.

The 2014 Spring grants totaled $198,000 and were awarded to the following groups:

  • 100 Black Men of Omaha, Inc. – $3,000 to support expenses associated with the 100 Saturday Academy.
  • ALLPLAY Foundation, Inc. – $5,000 to support the expenses involved with the Miracle Baseball League.
  • Ally Mentoring – $2,500 to increase awareness through attendance at community events, targeted material, and to secure membership in other professional networks.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands – $3,000 to expand our community-based mentoring program matching foster care youth with an adult mentor.
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands – $3,000 to support expenses associated with the Nebraska Science Festival 2014.
  • Boys Town National Research Hospital – $5,000 to support expenses associated with the Camp Abilities weeklong residential sports camp.
  • Children’s Scholarship Fund of Omaha (CSF) – $3,000 to assist with a redesign and development of the website.
  • Collective for Youth – $3,000 to support the operating budget and the Program Director’s Salary.
  • College Possible – $10,000  to provide support towards the required AmeriCorps match for the ServeNebraska grant.
  • Compassion In Action Inc. – $5,000 to support expenses associated with the LEAP (Learning/ Empowerment/ Achievement/Purpose) program.
  • Concord Mediation Center – $3,000 to support expenses associated with updating and the purchase of new technologies.
  • Durham Museum – $5,000 to underwrite the purchase of a replacement lift.
  • El Museo Latino – $5,000 to support expenses associated with two positions including a Development/Grant Writer and Marketing/Public Relations.
  • Family Housing Advisory Services – $10,000 to expand financial literacy education opportunities for underserved youth in the foster care system.
  • Girls Inc. – $10,000 to provide counseling and mentoring support and life skills curriculum to girls living in foster care.
  • GOALS Center – $3,000 to fund a program manager position.
  • Goodwill Industries, Inc. – $5,000 to support expenses associated with the Customer Connect Program.
  • Holy Name Housing Corporation – $5,000 to support expenses associated with the Crown Program.
  • Institute of Public Life – $3,000 to create an effective website, and a social media and communications plan.
  • J’s Braintrust Consulting Services Inc. – $3,000 to cover the cost of a complete external financial audit for 2012 and 2013.
  • Justice For Our Neighbors-Nebraska – $10,000 to support expenses associated with the “Attorney of the Day”; offering pro bono representation to non-detained juvenile respondents in removal proceedings at the Omaha Immigration Court.
  • Literacy Center for the Midlands – $10,000 to assist with an organizational technology upgrade.
  • Mercy Housing Midwest – $2,500 to offset operating costs associated with the Resident Services program.
  • Micah House – $5,000 to provide emergency shelter and support services for families who are homeless.
  • New Visions Homeless Services – $10,000 to support expenses associated with the prevention of bed bug outbreaks and also to fund transportation for veterans.
  • No More Empty Pots – $10,000 to support expenses associated with the development of a co-sponsored community garden for the North Omaha Intergenerational Campus.
  • NOVA Treatment Community, Inc. – $3,000 to increase the recruitment and retention of foster homes; preventing children from being placed in shelters, or separated from their siblings.
  • Omaha Girls Rock – $5,000 to support expenses associated with the expansion of programming.
  • Omaha Street School – $5,000 to support expenses associated with software upgrades to protect the existing network.
  • Outlook Nebraska, Inc. (ONI) – $3,000 to support the purchase of equipment associated with the Education and Training Program.
  • Partnership 4 Kids – $3,000 to support expenses associated with the implementation of a customized CiviCore client tracking and case management database system.
  • River City Mixed Chorus – $1,000 to support expenses associated with hosting a Free Youth Night Performance of the Chorus’ 30th Anniversary concert.
  • Teammates – $5,000 to develop an online web training portal to better serve mentors and youth.
  • The Union for Contemporary Art – $3,000 to obtain the services of an arts professional with experience working with at-risk children to improve youth outreach program in North Omaha.
  • Together – $5,000 to provide case management services and emergency resources to working families facing imminent eviction and/or utility shut offs.
  • Tri-Faith Initiative of Omaha, Inc. – $3,000 to underwrite a “neighbor to neighbor” series to engage members of the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths in dialogue.
  • Visiting Nurse Association – $5,000  to initiate a Grateful Patient program.
  • Volunteers Assisting Seniors – $5,000 to expand the senior health insurance counseling program; younger seniors not eligible for Medicare and in need of insurance.
  • Women’s Center for Advancement (WCA) – $10,000 to support expenses associated with the Safety Services program; legal team, legal clinic, advocates and counseling staff.
