More than $183,000 in Grants Focus on Omaha’s most Pressing Needs
Omaha, NE – The Omaha Community Foundation’s largest competitive grant program has awarded grants to 21 area organizations. The Fund for Omaha Grants are awarded in the Spring and Fall each year with the goal of helping nonprofits address community needs and support effective solutions.
The 2013 Fall Grants totaled $183,000 and were awarded to the following groups:
- American Heart Association – $10,000
- Angels Among Us – $10,000
- Assistance League of Omaha – $5,500
- Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts – $10,000
- CASA for Douglas County – $10,000
- Completely Kids – $10,000
- CUES – $10,000
- Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy – $5,500
- Hope Center for Kids – $10,000
- Inclusive Communities – $10,000
- Institute for Holocaust Education – $5,500
- Kids Can Community Center – $10,000
- Legal Aid of Nebraska – $10,000
- Live Well Omaha – $10,000
- Love’s Jazz and Arts Center – $5,500
- Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Inc. – $10,000
- Nebraska Appleseed Center for Law in the Public Interest – $10,000
- Omaha Area Youth Orchestras – $5,500
- Stephen Center, Inc. – $10,000
- Urban League of Nebraska – $5,500
- Youth Emergency Services – $10,000
The Greatest Need Grant program has evolved as a means for the Omaha Community Foundation to be responsive to the most pressing needs of the nonprofits in the Omaha community. Applicants are invited to identify their organization’s greatest need and propose a plan to address it. Greatest Need Grants fall into one of these three broad areas:
- Capacity Building – the improvement of capabilities, knowledge or resources so an agency can achieve its mission more effectively
- General Operating Expenses – purchase of equipment, staff salaries, marketing, etc.
- Programs – new or ongoing programs that respond to a demonstrated community need
