For over 10 years, the Omaha Community Foundation has been working with resident-led grant programs. These programs are designed to address need in our community ranging from neighborhood development, increased representation of black and people of color in leadership, and access for LGTBQIA+ community members.

Below, we have shared a list of the organizations that have received grants from the African American Unity Fund, the Futuro Latino Fund, the Equality Fund for LGBTQIA+, Omaha Neighborhood Grants Program, and the Refugee Community Grants Program. In addition, we have included nonprofits that have received grants from our COVID-19 Response Fund doing important work in communities of color during these unprecedented times.

In doing so, we are equipping community members with the knowledge to make more informed and equitable investments in the community we all call home.

Both locally and nationally we are seeing calls for racial justice, more equitable public policy, and a more diverse set of voices at the table and in positions of leadership. Our resident-led grant programs bring local voice and resident involvement into our philanthropic work.

“The Foundation believes that engaged residents are an invaluable part of a strong community, especially when voices that are often unheard are elevated,” said Donna Kush, President and CEO of the Foundation. “To that end, we strive to ensure that these programs empower everyday community members to make decisions about the initiatives that will impact their own community.”

Grant funds serve as strategic investments meant to impact those in our community who will benefit from greater access to equity and opportunity, guided by learnings from The Landscape, we understand that this is disproportionately people of color. In the long term, our goal is that resident-led grant programs will shape systems and determine policies that address the inequities in our community.
